February 2004. The first poker game. Below is the original e-mail I sent out to start up a poker night.
That first night was loads of fun. We had around 20 people if memory serves. I do know that Craig Johnson won. We had no clue what we were doing. The game floated around for a few months and then it became a regular occurrence in our basement in June and the rest is history.
From clay@nts.umd.edu Mon Feb 23 17:19:17 2004 -0500Subject: Poker Night This Friday at the Gumps house. I"M NOT BLUFFING
Date: Mon, 23 Feb 2004 17:19:17 -0500
After getting hooked on watching ESPN World Series of Poker I'm looking to start a regular Poker Game. Any of you fellas interested?
Low Stakes, High Fun. Maybe we can get a regular thing going. Last friday of every month?
No Ringers! Beginner level only. Those who are actually any good will be forced to do shots until they get down to our level.
I was thinking $20 buy in max. (Nickel Dime Quarter stuff) Or just play for fun and bragging rights.
We can get multiple tables going. The losers can watch a DVD or play scrabble. :)
I'll provide good beer. We'll figure out the food later.
RSVP if you can make it so I know how many tables to set up.
WHERE: Casa-de-Gump
WHEN: THIS Friday 7pm til ???
WHAT TO BRING: Bring some munchies if you want to. $20 and your best poker
face.
